Orofacial Myology

Over the years I have developed an interest in orofacial myofunctional disorders (OMDs), which are atypical adaptive patterns that affect the muscle of the face and mouth. OMDs may contribute to issues with: oral rest postures; feeding/swallowing; speech development; dental development; sleep disordered breathing; and pain in the face and head. If you would like to learn more about OMDs, please visit www.iaom.com.

My approach involves a comprehensive assessment of the structures of the face and mouth to determine barriers to success; as well as areas of strength and weakness in muscle performance. Once the barriers to success have been reduced or eliminated, treatment is tailored to the individual to optimize performance and success.

My services now include children 4 years of age and older, as well as adults. For children who are 3 years of age or younger, please head to www.asapp.ca to search for a Speech-Language Pathologist who will meet your needs.

Speech Sound Production

I enjoy the challenge of working with clients, 4 years of age and up as well as adults, who have difficulty producing speech sounds and for whom traditional speech sound treatment has been a struggle. Difficulty producing speech sounds can be due to several different factors and I will explore the best approach to treatment based on what a client's history and assessment reveals. I will first work to ensure the muscles of the face and mouth are working optimally before targeting speech sounds, leading to a much better chance for positive change and long term success.

My services are focused on children who are 4 years of age and up, and adults. If you are seeking services for a child who is 3 years of age or younger, please head to www.asapp.ca to search for a Speech-Language Pathologist who will meet your needs.
